What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are the primary compounds produced by the plant genus, Cannabis (Hemp), which is believed to be one of the oldest domesticated agricultural crops and is arguably the most amazingly versatile plant in the world.

Through selective breeding, Hemp has been cultivated for thousands of years to produce many valuable commodities, including textiles, building materials, fuel, and food. In addition, breeders have purposely developed strains with high amounts of medicinal cannabinoids, especially CBD. Scientific studies have identified 108 cannabinoids with different properties and herbal effects.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most well-known cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, renowned for its psychoactive and pain-killing qualities. But unknown to many, there are several other(non-hallucinogenic) cannabinoids which include CBC, CBD, CBG, CBN. Among these, CBD is the most studied and celebrated.

THC is the only psychoactive/hallucinogenic cannabinoid; the term “marijuana” refers only to varieties of cannabis that contain substantial amounts of THC, while strains that are high in CBD with only trace amounts (0.3% or below) of THC are called Agricultural/Industrial Hemp. Why? Because while CBD has been shown to possibly have wonderful health benefits, it does not cause a psychotropic “high” or euphoria at all. Instead, studies appear to indicate that CBD may quell anxiety and boost mood by promoting a sense of calmness and ease without distorting mental cognition or causing you to feel “stoned” or out of the ordinary.

How Does CBD Work?

In the last twenty years, modern science has discovered a natural “receptor” phenomenon in the human body — the Endo-Cannabinoid System — which scientists say may play a crucial role regulating our physiology, mood and everyday experience. The discovery of these receptors in the brain and immune system that respond to stimuli from cannabis, and the subsequent identification of molecules in our own bodies that bind to these receptors (endocannabinoids) – may have significantly advanced our understanding of human biology, health and disease.

There are two types of cannabinoid receptors in humans: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are present in the brain and spinal cord and in certain peripheral tissues, while CB2 receptors are found primarily in the immune system.

Some scientists think CBD may be — in addition to its binding with the CB1 receptors — the main non-psychoactive cannabinoid that binds the receptors in your immune system, thus possibly providing a variety of medicinal benefits.

The Different Forms of CBD?

CBD is available in many different forms. One of them is in a Tincture Oil. Tinctures are also easier to give to children as they have to take only small amounts.

CBD Tincture’s were designed to have the highest CBD absorption rate available. Because they are taken directly under the tongue, they enter the bloodstream much more directly than by most other means.

This means that the action in the body is usually quicker. Also the balms and lotions is made with the isolate and derived from the CBD plant of the highest quality.

What is CBD Good For?

For long term health and wellness use, CBD is one of the best ways to keep a body healthy. Studies suggest, for specific ailments, CBD may help in many ways:

Pain/Chronic Pain Anxiety Inflammation Sleep Disorder Diabetes MS PTSD Neuro Disorders Spasms Rheumatoid Arthritis Alcoholism Schizophrenia Epilepsy Parkinson’s

The Opportunity

As George Washington said “Make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere”. The CBD market offers a tremendous opportunity and according to many researchers, it may be the single most important cannabinoid ever discovered. Well known for its safety CBD is only now becoming recognized for its exceptional medical potential.

New pharmaceutical drugs are under development all of the time. They are usually developed to treat one specific type of disease through one particular mechanism of action. Whether designed to block one type of protein from acting; or stopping one particular gene from turning on or off; stopping a cell from dividing; or triggering one key cell receptor associated with the progression of that disease, most drugs rarely can be extended beyond their original target disease.

In addition, very few of these new pharmaceuticals work outside of a test tube where the cells are literally bathed in the drug; some do, but by far, most don’t. And when they do work as planned, it is widely recognized as a success. As long as the side effects are not fatal or at the least are less severe than the disease itself. With cancer, as long as a drug can extend life for even a few months, it is considered a success. Extending life a few years is considered groundbreaking. Depending on how common and deadly the disease, these benefits can result in huge revenues that richly reward everyone associated with its development.

CBD has exceptional potential for treating and curing many diseases. There are nearly 20,000 research papers listed in the NIH PubMed library covering the cannabis plant’s potential, but for purely cultural reasons, the development of these pharmaceutical products has been largely avoided and disdained. There is now an opportunity to finally develop these market-disrupting products for those who can recognize their potential and want to be part of a step-change advance in the treatment and cure of many different diseases.

Cannabinoids will ultimately result in a very large, very valuable market segment representing a significant advance in our $2.8 Trillion-dollar healthcare market. Why? Because it works and it is safe. Cannabidiol (CBD) addresses so many different diseases because it affects cell receptors that are fundamental to how our immune system works. CBD is so intertwined with our bodies that our endocannabinoid system is even named after them. The key factors to bear in mind about CBD and this industry are:

• Cannabis plants produce over 108 known types of cannabinoids,

• Only a few are psychoactive and can get you high,

• Cannabidiol (CBD) is non-psychoactive and CANNOT get you high,

• Cannabinoids have exceptional pharmaceutical potential to treat many different diseases only just now being recognized,

• New World CBD is dedicated to developing non-psychoactive cannabinoid products to help treat and cure disease
Cannabis and Cannabinoids History

The ‘discovery’ of cannabis’s medical potential is not new. Humans have used Cannabis for a long, long time. Cannabis hemp cord was used to decorate pottery 10,000 years ago, leaving its decorative imprints on bowls. Cannabis has also been used as an extract for many thousands of years, at least 6,000, as proven by actual residue found in bowls from 4000 BC used by the Oxus civilization of India, and in 2,400-year old gold cups from Scythia. Its pollen has also been found inside the mummy wrapping of Ramesses II from 1,213 BC. Cannabis was prescribed for glaucoma in ancient Egyptian medical scrolls, for pain and anxiety in Roman treatises, and referenced in ancient Greece for gout and swelling of the joints.

The medicinal value of Cannabis was also well recognized during the founding of the United States and actually was an accepted part of the US Pharmacopeia (USP) from 1850 until 1942, when the laws changed and it was finally removed.

The point of this long history is the fact of how extraordinarily safe Cannabinoids are. There is no history of or folklore warning of its dangers or toxicity. Cannabinoids do not have any of the negative or dangerous side effects that nearly all other pharmaceuticals have.

In other areas, preliminary research even suggests that Cannabinoids have the potential to actually repair the damage done by several devastating diseases. Medical research in this area has been suppressed for years because of Cannabis’ legal status, so it is difficult to be definitive, however, what little work that has been done shows an amazing potential to kill cancer cells, protect organs and nerves from damage, slow multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, and other neuropathic diseases, treat arthritis, joint diseases and much, much more.

The potential benefits of Cannabidiol (CBD) and the other 108 currently known Cannabinoids reach incredibly far beyond the current, simple anti-nausea uses of medical marijuana.

There are two types of cannabinoid receptors in humans: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are present in the brain and spinal cord and in certain peripheral tissues, while CB2 receptors are found primarily in the immune system. These receptors are present in most, if not all, of our cells and are so basic to our fundamental biochemistry that they are also found in all mammalian species as well. They exist for a reason and are tightly linked to our immune system, which is so critical to our ability to fight and resist disease.

Some scientists think CBD may be, in addition to its binding with the CB1 receptors, the main non-psychoactive cannabinoid that binds the receptors in your immune system, thus possibly providing a variety of medicinal benefits.

Since 1933, when Cannabis was made illegal, our understanding of Cannabis’ healing potential has been frozen in time, in the era of tinctures, infusions, and tonics. And interestingly, the current focus is still centered on these relatively simple types of uses, more from a lack of
available scientific studies than desire.

In the last 30 years we have made quantum leaps in our understanding of human biochemistry, in pharmacology, and in the development of drugs. We should now make that same quantum leap in our understanding of the potential of cannabinoids as pharmaceuticals to cure disease. The hints are there and are eye-opening in their possibilities.

The ongoing Cannabis legalization developments in many states represent a perfect opening to get in on the ground floor of what is anticipated to be a multi-billion-dollar industry.

THE Cannabidiol (CBD) MOMENTUM

CNN has been running a series by the noted neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta discussing why his thinking about the medical benefits of cannabis has undergone a 180° change.

Gupta: Why I changed my mind on Cannabis http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/08/health/gupta-changed-mind-marijuana/

Gupta has stated: I am more convinced than ever that it is irresponsible to not provide the best care that we can, care that may often involve cannabinoids. “ I am not backing down . . . I am doubling down. “ http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/05/health/gupta-medical-marijuana/

And Dr. Gupta further states, “The science is there. This isn’t anecdotal.” “We have been terribly and systematically misled for nearly 70 years in the United States, and I apologize for my own role in that.”

“I am here to apologize. I apologize because I didn’t look hard enough, until now. I didn’t look far enough. I didn’t review papers from smaller labs in other countries doing some remarkable research, and I was too dismissive of the loud chorus of legitimate patients whose symptoms improved on cannabis.” (emphasis added)

From someone who publicly parroted the ‘party line’ that there were no known medical benefits to marijuana, Dr. Gupta has finally learned how wrong he was. He now sees the potential that THC and Cannabinoids have to treat many conditions that are either untreatable or poorly treated by current pharmaceuticals. And he understands how releasing the shackles on legitimate research can open the door for many new discoveries.

We believe Dr. Gupta is understating the case.

When CNN and NBC Dateline’s Harry Smith both highlight the real benefits of Cannabinoids, and CBD Oil in particular, to real patients, and especially young epileptic children who would possibly die without it, then it becomes easy to see how quickly the laws could possibly change.

Harry Smith, June 7, 2015, Dateline http://www.nbcnews.com/dateline/video/full-episode–dateline–growing-hope-464847427875

Even though both Gupta and Smith focus mostly on just a single disease, epilepsy, that potential alone can be a life-changing benefit for many thousands. As Gupta notes, “…the American Epilepsy Society (AES) says that there are a million people for whom existing therapies do not control their seizures.

The society recently said anecdotes about medical cannabis “give reason for hope” and said it supports “well-controlled studies that will lead to a better understanding of the disease and the development of safe and effective treatments.” To quote the American Epilepsy Society directly; “AES believes that there must be more research done on CBD-rich marijuana**. “ (** from an AES Letter to the DEA, April 24, 2014)

There is now a window of opportunity. Those who can react in time to this opportunity will transform medical care and reap exceptional benefits. Those who are focused on helping people, easing their suffering and curing diseases, will do exceptional good at the same time.

Legality

Is CBD Legal? Under the 2018 US Farm Act (The Farm Act) CBD produced from Hemp is 100% legal in all 50 states. CBD was removed from a Class 1 by the DEA.

And God said, “Behold”, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of the earth, and every tree with seed its fruit, it shall be food for you.”
