If you’re struggling to get to sleep, or stay asleep throughout the night, you’re not alone. A survey done in the U.K. suggested that up to a third of the population suffers from some kind of sleeping difficulty.
This figure, if accurate, is indeed a substantial number, especially when you take into account the different factors that may be behind this inability to get a decent sleep. If this number is reflective of a population that struggles with getting adequate amounts of sleep, it might suggest a strong need for a remedy that doesn’t mean over-prescribing pharmaceutical sedatives.
Many who take prescription medication for insomnia or other sleep-related issues complain of feeling lethargic, nauseated, distracted, and unable to focus – and that’s just some of the side-effects. Many of those who take prescription medication are also unable to operate vehicles or machinery, which can mean the loss of mobility and even the loss of income. But how do you find something that helps you maintain a decent sleep without all the horrible side-effects of prescription medication?

Those who suffer from sleep issues often say that it’s not sleep alone that is the problem; rather it is the symptom of a larger, more pressing issue. So treating someone who has issues getting or maintaining sleep first comes down to finding the instigator of the problem.
One of the main reasons behind not getting enough sleep is said to be the inability to turn your mind off at night. It would seem that as soon as you lay your head down to sleep, thoughts from the day catch up to you and invade any chance of peace you may have sought in sleep. This may be due to a great number of different things, but most often is due to an overactive mind, stress and even anxiety.
CBD for sleep has shown to hold significant benefits, with findings suggesting CBD to have powerful anxiolytic effects in both animal and human test subjects. In a human study, researchers investigated the possible anxiolytic action of CBD in experimentally-induced anxiety in healthy volunteers, using the simulated public speaking (SPS) model. When CBD and a placebo were administered to two test groups with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), they found that levels of anxiety in the group who were given the placebo were far higher than those who received CBD; whom performed similarly to healthy controls in some measures.
CBD oil may also help sleep patterns reset and so break that vicious cycle when anxiety is the cause of your sleeping problems. A Brazilian study indicated that when CBD was administered to test subjects, sleep increased significantly compared to the placebo.

CBD Oil for Sleep and Chronic pain
Another major reason people reported not being able to get to sleep, or maintain substantial sleep, was due to chronic pain. Many who suffer from insomnia say that they cannot find enough relief from pain to manage to get to sleep or at least to remain asleep through the night. A rodent study submitted to the European Journal of Pain noted a significant drop in inflammation and signs of pain in rats with arthritis after they received topical treatment of CBD for sleep.
Currently, studies suggest that CBD attaches to the cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2, within the body, which works to maintain homeostasis in the body. CB2 receptors were found in much higher amounts in the joints of arthritis sufferers and when CBD was introduced into the body, it was found to interact with these receptors, promoting analgesia in the affected area. It also suggested that it was unlikely that CBD users would build up an eventual resistance, and so could be used without gradual reuptake.
